OU TEARS DOWN ALABAMA’S SUGAR BOWL HOPES WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN

Thursday night’s Allstate Sugar had plenty of drama cooking before going into the game. It had the 11th ranked Oklahoma Sooners pitted against the third ranked Crimson Tide of Alabama.

The Sooners were a 17 point underdog. However, Bob Stoops and multiple Sooners said they weren’t playing the underdog card, but rather the Sooners were on par with the Crimson Tide. So much was made of Alabama being ready to show up that people forgot that the Sooners were coming off a huge last minute Bedlam win against the Pokes of OSU.

With every state in the United States against OU, the Sooners hit the field to take on the unbeatable Crimson Tide. But, fortunes could have been read a little early because OU won the coin toss, which really has no significance, but at least it was a step in the right direction.

Right away Alabama goes right down the field in two plays and scores… Shit here we go again, said every Sooner fan in their head whether they admit it or not. But then something magical happened, we scored right back and the game was tied at seven all.

From then on it was all out war. In all reality at quarterback it was a David versus Goliath matchup with three time national championship winner AJ McCarron commanding the forces on side while on the other hand Trevor Knight, OU’s freshman quarterback only played in four games in his college career.

After the standstill at seven all, Alabama went down the field and scored a field goal. Okay it’s just a field goal no biggy. So how do the Sooners answer back? Well they march down the field and score a touchdown, and this is really when the Sooners looked like they were playing with a championship mentality.

At the end of one of quarter of play the Sooners lead the Crimson Tide 14 to 10. The Sooners came out in the second quarter of play with guns blazing down 14 to 17 they had nothing to lose. After a 47 yard kick by Michael Hunnicutt field goal the game was tied at 17. From here the Sooners never looked back, and scored two touchdowns before halftime.

On the other side of the field, Alabama had a chance to put three points up on the board late in the second quarter, but their kick failed and the Sooners took a 31 to 17 lead into the locker room at half.

There isn’t much to say about the third quarter other than both defenses showed their stuff. Besides one explosive 43 yard run by Alabama’s Derrick Henry there wasn’t any scoring in the quarter.

That makes the score 31 to 24 with the Sooners still clinching on to a seven point lead.

Heading into the final quarter of action the Sooners had all the momentum, and only furthered when Sterling Sheppard scored on an end around making the score 38 to 24. Alabama would not falter easily however; they had plans of their own when Henry exploded for another huge run for a touchdown.

Thus making the score 38 to 31. The Sooners did what they had to capping off an 11 play drive with a punt. With under a minute left the Crimson Tide took the field for their final possession of the game. One play later, McCarron fumbles the ball and OU recovers and takes it to the house to wrap the game up.

In the end, it was amazing game full of intrigue and definitely one of the most anxiety provoking games I have ever watched. The sky is limit for the Sooners in 2014, so lets see where the Sooners end up after next season because this win has resurrected Sooner Nation.
