I have long believed that the rise of the internet blog was the best thing to happen to journalism. Sure it has contributed to death of newspapers, fact checking, and all attempts at unbiased reporting. But it has given a voice to the masses, and nothing is more bewilderingly entertaining than the masses. Where favorite sports teams can simultaneously do no wrong and get nothing right. Where bad movies can be heralded for their total vision (or lack thereof) and good movies can be ripped apart for that scene where the person drawing switches handedness (totally ruins the film). Where video games can be called out for being childish, sexist, racist and insensitive, and we can be yelled at for not appreciating that they’re just games.
So it was that myself, along with Alex Joseph and Brent Stenstrom dreamed up Slackerz Guide. A place to discuss all of the wondrous things you can do with a television. It is dedicated to entertainment, to those moments that make you take to twitter and type “!!!” as your analysis. Those scenes that make you ask yourself why Steel isn’t in everyone’s movie collection. To that time you watched a cut scene where a character showed his emotional depth, then proceeded to murder 100 nameless bad guys. It is blog dedicated to everything that is fun in media. Sure you may find yourself occasionally googling PER, Scorsese Stretch, or Ludonarrative Dissonance. But more often you’ll be watching a youtube clip of a Manu Ginobli-James Harden double flop. This is a blog about people, their couches, their televisions and that time you spilled cheese puffs on the ground reaching for the remote to make sure you weren’t missing a chance to watch The Rock for 35th time. There will be nonsense. There will be contradictions. There will be run on sentences and writing in the first person and internet memes and ALL OF THE PUNS. This is a blog that spells slackerz with a “Z”. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
Thanks for reading (but really for clicking) and remember, someday you too can have a blog that nobody reads.
